De Britse zwaargewicht neemt het op zaterdagavond in Los Angeles op tegen de Amerikaanse Heavyweight Wilder voor zijn WBC-riem.

Tyson Fury the Gypsy King

The Gypsy King zegt dat hij, ongeacht de uitkomst, de bakken vol met geld niet zal houden voor zichzelf, zijn kinderen of zijn zwangere vrouw. In plaats daarvan zegt hij dat hij huizen gaat bouwen om de armen een dak boven het hoofd te bieden in deze bizarre tijden. Omdat je de boodschap verder wel begrijpt, laten we het je verder uitleggen door the man himself:

“I’m going to give it to the poor and I’m going to build homes for the homeless. I don’t really have much use for it, I’m not interested in becoming a millionaire or a billionaire. I’m a boxer not a businessman and I’ll probably go down the same route as every other boxer – skint at the end of it all. You can’t take it with you, so I might as well do something with it and help out people who can’t help themselves.”

Eerder de man die tot zijn 50ste wil boksen al: “I give my promotional team half of the money and I donate the other half to charity or give it to people in need because I don’t think people should make money out of punching other people in the face. I fight because I love to fight.”

Kinderen

Het is natuurlijk behoorlijk nobel om á la Robin Hood te strijden voor de armen. Naast het feit dat niemand dakloos zou moeten zijn heeft Tyson echter nog een andere reden voor zijn beslissing: een voorbeeld voor zijn kinderen. De bokser is van mening dat zijn nakomelingen niet zomaar moeten leven van zijn erfenis! In plaats van daar schenkt hij ze liever de mentaliteit waarmee hij het zelf gemaakt heeft. Voor zijn vier kinderen, met nog eentje onderweg, had hij de volgende boodschap:

“I believe all kids should make their own money in life because if they don’t, they won’t appreciate it. It’s easy to spend someone else’s money and the money I’ve earned is practically blood money. My kids have to make their own living and make their own way in life; they won’t be living off my name or reputation because that’s too easy a route. You see many of these rich people’s kids doing nothing because they had it too easy. I never had it easy, I had to work for whatever I got. I was working from very young, everything I wanted in life I had to work for.”
